"Be not afraid, for I am an angel of the Lord"

What makes anyone think that Mary's encounter with the archangel Gabriel was a pleasant one? I'm pretty sure the encounter was nothing short of a Nightmare Fuel. Their descriptions in the Old Testament alone prove they are Eldritch horrors, the kind that breaks reality and the minds of anyone who dare gaze upon them. Pretty sure despite the angel's "comforting" words, if indeed the angel "spoke" words at all, I'm sure Mary did not leave the encounter without losing a fragment of her own sanity thereafter.

If the presence of an angel were at all comforting, they wouldn't need to say "Be not afraid" as they frequently do.
